Emmetsburg comes on to put away Wolverine girls


Emmetsburg pulled away in the final three quarters to defeat South O’Brien’s girls 68-24 January 11 at Paullina. The Wolverines held an 11-9 lead after one quarter before the visitors took off. South O’Brien fell to 3-8 on the season while the E-Hawks improved to 9-5.
The home team was limited to 28 percent shooting with nine field goals in 32 tries. Emmetsburg hit 25 of its 53 attempts to shoot 47 percent. From three-point range the E-Hawks were 7-of-18 and the Wolverines 2-of-10. Emmetsburg went 11-for-21 at the free throw line where the Wolverines were 4-of-12.
Reese Farquhar scored nine points, followed by Lindsey Einck with four points, Marissa Ebel with three and Addison Hedberg, Chloe Hustedt, Abby Nelson and Abby Woodall with two apiece. Ebel had two assists. Emmetsburg featured the one-two punch of Kylie Hoffman, who scored 21 points, and Rachel Schany, who tallied 19.
Einck and Farquhar each collected six rebounds. Ebel came away with three steals and Jaylah Jackson blocked a shot. South O’Brien turned the ball over 38 times compared to 18 for the E-Hawks.
