South O’Brien tops Westwood boys
South O’Brien stepped out of conference December 9 to take on Westwood at Sloan. The Wolverines won each of the four quarters to pocket a 72-51 win and improve to 4-0 on the season.
The visitors connected on half of their 58 field goal attempts which included going 8-of-20 from beyond the three-point line. They made six of their eight free throw attempts. It was 22-of-53 from the floor for the Rebels, who shot 42 percent. They were 5-of-21 from long range and 2-of-5 at the foul line.
The three South O’Brien players to score in double figures were Derek Paulsen with 20 points, Willy Conley with 15 and David Bottjen with 14. The Wolverines got nine points from Ben Woodall, five from Jaden Kreber, three from Caden Wittrock and two each from Justice Frerk, Reese Lundquist and Aaron Funkhouser. The 18 assists included seven from Woodall and five from Paulsen.
The Wolverines, with 39 rebounds, won the battle of the boards by 20. Bottjen collected 10 caroms, Woodall eight and Paulsen five. Wittrock made three steals and Frerk blocked a pair of shots. The turnover totals showed South O’Brien with 11 and the Rebels with nine.
