Wolverine boys pick up road win at Hinton
South O’Brien moved to 2-0 in the War Eagle Conference with a 66-42 victory over Hinton December 8 at Hinton. The visitors outscored the Blackhawks 19-5 in the second quarter to take a 38-16 lead at halftime.
The Wolverines limited Hinton to 31 percent shooting from the field with 14 baskets in 45 attempts. South O’Brien was 27-of-66 from the field to shoot 41 percent. That included making seven of their 20 tries from three-point range. Both teams shot well at the free throw line with the Wolverines sinking five of seven and Hinton 10 of 12.
Providing a one-two scoring punch for South O’Brien were Derek Paulsen with 24 points and David Bottjen with 16. Willy Conley chipped in with seven points while Justice Frerk and Jaden Kreber each scored six. Caden Wittrock added four points and Ben Woodall three. Frerk was atop the assists column with four.
Paulsen grabbed seven rebounds, Conley six and Bottjen and Kreber five apiece. Conley and Bottjen each recorded four steals and Paulsen, Bottjen and Reese Lundquist each blocked a shot. South O’Brien committed just four turnovers while the Blackhawks had 19.
