Shirley J. Radtke (Risk)

Shirley J. Radtke (Risk), 95 of Sioux City passed away peacefully at home after a brief illness on December 8th, 2023. Visitation with the family present will be Wednesday, December 13th from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Funeral Services will be Thursday, December 14th at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Sioux City, Iowa with Reverend Mark Bedford officiating. Internment will be at Logan Park Cemetery, Sioux City, Iowa. Pallbearers are Mark Tighe, Damon Keith, Ethan Radtke, Joshua Meier, Koel Radtke, Kyle Tobin, Logan Radtke, Shane Keith, and Willis Radtke.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Siouxland.
Shirley was born on February 23rd, 1928 to Ralph and Gladys Miller in Minneapolis, MN. The majority of her life was spent in Sioux City. She married Willis E. Radtke on February 6th, 1947 and they lived in Kittery, Maine where Willis was stationed at the Portsmouth naval base until his discharge from the Navy after which they moved back to Iowa. They spent many wonderful years together until his passing on April 3rd, 1986.
Shirley spent many years as a unit secretary at St. Luke’s Hospital in Sioux City. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
Shirley enjoyed sewing, baking, reading, working puzzles and especially looked forward to playing cards with her many friends. Shirley traveled to Europe and throughout the United States enjoying the history and the vistas she saw. She was always welcoming to family and friends and enjoyed preparing meals at any time, especially during the holidays. Family was the most important part of her life and she would do anything for them. Shirley was a very giving and caring person always willing to lend a helping hand. We were blessed to have her as our mother.
Left to cherish her memory are Frances (Richard) Keith, Patricia (Michael) Junck, Rebecca (John) Tobin, Steven (Sandi) Radtke, Richard (Mari) Radtke, Lisa (Randy) Meier, 17 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. Of special note is her very best friend Mavis Schubert and Mark and Susan Tighe who opened their home to her in her last years and treated her as family.
