The Paullina City Council met in regular session on October 2nd, 2023 in the Council Chambers, City Hall, 127 S Main St, Paullina, Iowa. Mayor Brenda Ebel Kruse called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. & led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Roll Call. Council Members present: Jean Unrau, Carol Honkomp, Steve Heeren. Absent: Jay Jones. Lexy Murphy arrived at 5:36 pm. Mayor Ebel Kruse declared a quorum.
Also present: City Clerk Michelle Wilson, Police Chief Nathan Bremer. Guests: Patrice Ewoldt, John Ihle, Glenda Heithus, Nichole Jacobs, Melinda Hansen, Marlin Sjaarda, Mary Ann Meyer and Kiana Johnson of O’Brien County Economic Development.
Motion by Unrau; second by Honkomp to approve agenda as presented. All ayes. Nays: none. Absent: Jones. Motion carried.
Motion by Murphy; second by Unrau to approve 9/18/23 regular meeting minutes. All ayes. Absent: Jones. Motion carried.
Motion by Unrau; second by Murphy to approve claims. All ayes. Absent: Jones. Motion carried.
Kiana Johnson of O’Brien County Economic Development gave a presentation of 2023’s Annual Report.
Motion by Murphy; second by Honkomp to introduce Resolution No. 2023-35 to set trick or treat hours on 10/31/23 to be 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Roll call vote: Ayes: Honkomp, Heeren, Unrau and Murphy. Nays: none. Absent: Jones. Resolution No. 2023-35 passes.
Motion by Honkomp; second by Unrau to set a hearing date for October 16th, 2023 at 5:30 pm re: 111 N Willow property nuisance violation. All ayes. Absent: Jones. Motion carried.
A discussion was held regarding the dead and diseased trees in city parking and the replacement of said trees. A tree committee was formed to further discuss replacement options.
Motion by Murphy; second by Unrau to adjourn meeting at 6:36 pm. All ayes. Absent: Jones. Meeting adjourned.
