Sioux Central too much for South O’Brien
South O’Brien gave up nine unearned runs in the top of the first inning against Sioux Central and it was just too much to overcome the rest of the game. For the remainder of the game the Rebels outscored the Wolverines 5-4. The final score was 14-4 in five innings June 27 at Paullina. Six Rebel hits, three Wolverine errors, and a walk lead to the nine unearned runs in the first inning. We should have been out of that inning without giving up a run. It was a very frustrating start for us. Once the first inning was behind us we played a decent game. We have to be focused and ready to play from the first pitch of the night.
Shay Hatting got the start and pitched well enough, but just did not have the defense tonight. She only threw the one inning of play and gave up six hits, nine runs (none earned), and walked one. Brooklyn Edwards came in for the last four innings and gave up four hits, five runs, walked three and struck out one.
The Rebels are ranked #12 in Class 2A, but that is no reason for us to not make routine plays in the field. The Wolverines had six team hits of their own. Jinger Nieuwenhuis hit a double and a single and had an RBI. Payton Farquhar hit a pair of singles and scored twice. Karlee Warnke ripped a two-RBI double. Edwards also had a single.
