Inaugural Midwest Youth Dairy Goat Judging Contest Set For July 14
ORANGE CITY, Iowa – The Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Dairy Team, along with the Quad State Dairy Goat Classic and Iowa 4-H will host the first ever youth dairy goat judging contest on Friday, July 14 at the Clay County Fairgrounds located at 800 W 18th St. in Spencer, Iowa. The event will be in conjunction with the Quad State Classic Dairy Goat Show.
Individuals and teams are eligible to compete. Teams will be comprised of up to four individuals in each division (novice and senior) with the top scoring three individuals being tallied for the team score. A novice will be 5 to 14 years old on the day of the contest. A senior will be 15 to 21 years of age on the day of the contest. If an individual is not associated with a team, he/she can be grouped with other individuals to form a team or will be eligible to compete for individual awards.

On-line registration will close on Friday, July 7 while in-person registration will be available at the show between 3:00 and 3.30 pm. Individuals can register for $5/person. Teams will be registered for $10/team plus $5 for each individual. Individuals with no team affiliation are eligible to compete. Complete rules are available on-line at:

The judging contest will provide youth involved with dairy goats (4-H, FFA or dairy goat breed association youth programs) the opportunity to develop the skills inherent in a judging program, namely: conformation evaluation, vocabulary, logical thinking, public speaking and the development of personal confidence and poise.
