South O’Brien FFA Competes in Farm Business Management Competition at State Convention

The State Farm Business Management team was just one of the many South O’Brien teams that were able to compete at the State FFA Leadership Conference, and competed very well.
The 383 individuals who participated in the event each completed an objective test which had three sections: economic principles, records and analysis, and risk management. All team members worked together to solve a problem related to break even analysis.
This year’s team included Brett Evans, Josie Brown, Clarie Wagner, and Lydia Flinders. This was the first experience in this area for a couple of the team members but they all said they were happy they decided to try something new and enjoyed doing it. The team finished with a Bronze rating.
Evans said “I learned a lot about the business side of farming and how being financially independent can be really beneficial in life.” Brett also added, “It wasn’t just the competition that was fun, but the activities outside the competition–exploring the career show, eating at Hickory Park, and walking around inside the Iowa State football stadium–were also really enjoyable.” .
Brett encourages other members to participate in this competition because you learn a lot and get to do a lot of fun activities along the way.
