Wolverines give up too many runs in first two frames of loss to A-W
South O’Brien faced Akron-Westfield on Friday, June 9 and started out too flat, allowing A-W to put up eight runs in the first three innings of play. The final score ended up 8-2 in favor of the Westerners. Over the last four innings of play A-W only had one hit. We have to be ready to pitch, play defense and hit the ball ourselves right out of the gate in the first inning. We have been spotting teams multiple runs and that is definitely what we do not want to do.
Shay Hatting pitched the first 1-1/3 innings and gave up six hits and seven runs and walked three. Brooklyn Edwards pitched the final 5-2/3 frames and gave three hits, one run, walked two and struck out one. Abby Nelson went 2-for-2 on the night with a pair of singles. Karlee Warnke hit an RBI double. Collecting singles were Jinger Nieuwenhuis, Marissa Ebel, Reese Farquhar and Alyssa Van Beek. We just could not string our hits together and left too many baserunners stranded.
