Three Gehlen pitchers combine to shut out Wolverines
Gehlen Catholic used a trio of pitchers to limit South O’Brien to just one hit and pick up a 10-0 War Eagle Conference victory June 7 at Le Mars. The Jays scored their final two runs in the sixth inning to end the game early.
Jays starter David Begnoche allowed the hit during his three innings of work. Preserving the shutout were relievers Gabe Wiltgen and Ryan Augustine.
Dain Moermond got the hit for the Wolverines, a double. He also was the starting pitcher, yielding nine runs on nine hits in 5-1/3 innings of work. Seven of the runs were earned. Moermond recorded six walks, two strikeouts and two hit batters. Mitchell Enger pitched a third of an inning plus in relief. He allowed an earned run on a hit with one strikeout and one walk. South O’Brien was guilty of three errors.
Enger drew two walks at the plate and Trevor Fiddelke one. Boston Riedemann was hit by a pitch.
