Maddie Johnson Was The Winner Of The Shot Put Competition At The Wolverine Early Bird Meet.

The South O’Brien girls got the outdoor track season underway by hosting the Wolverine Early Bird Meet March 30 at Paullina. Three events were winners for South O’Brien. Maddie Johnson won the shot put with a throw of 35’ 7-1/4”. Taja Conley finished first in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:21.10. Taja also joined Maddy Friedrichsen, Kelsee Warnke and Karlee Warnke to capture the sprint medley relay in 2:00.24.
Clara Larsen placed second in the shot as did Takara Conley in the 800 meters. Runner-up relays for the Wolverines were the 4×400 of Taja Conley, Takara Conley, Avery Halverson and Camryn Strubbe, the 4×800 of Takara Conley, Tatiana Conley, Taylor Wulf and Elodie Wilson and the distance medley of Strubbe, Friedrichsen, Halverson and Taja Conley.
Takara Conley finished third in the 1500 meters and Tatiana Conley was third in the 400 meter hurdles. The two relays which placed third were the 4×100 relay of Kelsee Warnke, Strubbe, Addison Hedberg and Karlee Warnke and the shuttle hurdle of Marissa Ebel, Abigail Nelson, Tawni Wulf and Hedberg.
South O’Brien was also third in the team standings with 114 points. The Wolverines were just two shy of Cherokee’s second-place total of 116. Okoboji was the clear winner with a total of 169 points.
