30 years ago – 1993
Orabs down SOHS in high-scoring game – South O’Brien played host to the Sheldon Orabs in the regular season finale Tuesday, February 16 in Paullina. The boys treated their fans to a good basketball game but ended up on the short end of a very high scoring contest, 86-80.
National FFA Week – More than 401,000 FFA members across the nation will celebrate National FFA Week, February 22-26. During the week, FFA members in 7,800 local chapters will conduct activities to educate the public on the importance of the agricultural industry to our nation and world. Students will also be involved in activities to promote and publicize the activities and the value of their experiences through the agricultural education program to their communities.
Parade of Bands Concert Sunday, Feb. 28 – The South O’Brien Instrumental Music Department will present its annual Parade of Bands Concert at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, February 28 in the high school west gymnasium in Paullina. This special concert features all four of the concert bands within the department. The fifth grade beginners band will perform first, followed by the sixth grade, junior highl and high school ensembles. A special massed band finale will culminate this musical afternoon. The interesting effect of this concert is listening to the progression of musical abilities and appreciating the growth in music education reflected in the advancing levels. Please join us for an afternoon of light program music designed to entertain crowds young and old. Admission is $2.50 for adults and $1.50 for students.
SOHS in SFC Choral Festival – South O’Brien musicians will be part of the 600 musicians from nine high schools that will converge on the Sioux Falls College Campus Feb. 26 to take part in the day-long First Annual Choral Festival.

90th Birthday Open House On March 6 there will be an open house honoring Thomas Clausen on his 90th birthday. The time is from 2.00 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Paullina. All friends and relatives are cordially invited to this celebration. No gifts are requested, please.

Celebrate 51st Anniversary – Mr. and Mrs. Ira Tesch entertained their family at Ken-A-Bobs in Storm Lake on Sunday evening in honor of their 51st weddin g anniversary . Present for the occasion were their children: Mr. and Mrs. Jame s Koch, Mrs. Richard Edwards, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Click, Mr. and Mrs. Merle Kuehl, Mr. and Mrs. Verlon Tesch, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Cooper and two granddaughters, Barb Edward s and Mrs. Lonnie Craig and son, Clint.

World Day of Prayer Observance March 2 – The combined units of Church Women United of the Methodist Churches of Sutherland and Larrafoee. Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Sutherland, and Zion United Church of Christ of Calumet will celebrate World Day of Prayer at Zion United Church of Christ at Calumet on March 2 at 2 p.m. Women in 168 countries will be praying around the scene ALERT IN OUR TIME.
