Prairie View Cemetery, Paullina, Iowa
Rev. Donald Meyer ~ Officiating
Lyle asked for a simple funeral with burial in Paullina Prairie View East Cemetery nearest to other family members.
In light of the winter season and distances involved in traveling to Paullina the family has decided to forego a gathered funeral with his internment to be arranged by Eldridge Family Funeral Home, Paullina.
Lyle’s wish was to sing or read “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God,” “Just As I Am,” and verses one and four of “The Star Spangled Banner.”
He also desired to have read and reflect on Psalm 130 and Proverbs chapters 3 and 4.
The family requests honoring those wishes privately.
The family is also very grateful for your prayers and fond memories in assurance of his safe place in the Lord’s care.
In his memory gifts may be given to Christian Appalachian Project at donate.christianapp.org
one of his multiple charities.
Lyle Dietrich Brigge passed away December 31, 2022 at the age of 74 years and nearly 5 months in Glendale, AZ. Lyle was born Lyle Dennis Briggie to his parents, Francis and Doris [Heller] Briggie in Sioux City, Iowa on August 3, 1948. He was baptized and confirmed in Zion Lutheran Church, Paullina, Iowa. Lyle attended Kindergarten and First Grade in the Paullina Public School. He attended Zion Lutheran Parochial School for seven years through 8th grade. In his youth, Lyle was a door-to-door newspaper courier for the Sioux City Journal for three years and started his hobby of baseball card collecting.
Lyle graduated Paullina High School in 1966 as a National Honor Society member. In high school Lyle was active in band, speech, class plays, annual staff and Panther Tales. He also participated in football and baseball. In church he was part of Walther League and sang in the church choir.
After High School Lyle attended the University of South Dakota, Iowa Lakes Community College and later graduated from the University of Iowa in 1976 with a B.A. in Journalism. Lyle’s love of baseball and warm weather persuaded him to move to Southern California where he enjoyed his favorite team, the Los Angeles Dodgers. He continued his education there attending classes at California State University, Los Angeles.
Lyle was an avid reader. Fueling his passion to be informed he read from a variety of sources that shaped his worldview, not exclusive of his overriding faith in the Biblical worldview.
Lyle’s work was determined by his passion. He self-described as “Creative Writer.” For some time he published a small bi-monthly magazine “Wunderbar!,” maintained “Christ and Country” newsletter and was developing a “Christian Apologetics” library. He added the hobbies of writing prose and poetry, setting some to music, and painting.
Lyle’s interests included a passion for his German American heritage which led him to alter his legal name to “Lyle Dietrich Brigge.”
Lyle’s employment included teaching and tutoring for the Los Angeles School District and full time Security Officer in the Phoenix and Glendale, AZ area.
Lyle was never married. He was preceded in death by his sister, Carol, mother Doris, and father Francis. He is survived by two brothers, Howard and family of Seattle, WA, twin brother Lloyd and family of Lafayette, TN, four nieces, a nephew, and numerous cousins. As a loyal family member he never failed to send birthday, anniversary and Holiday cards.
