Wolverine boys shoot their way past Akron-Westfield
South O’Brien enjoyed a hot shooting night against Akron-Westfield which helped to produce a 59-44 victory over the Westerners. The win, January 20 at Paullina, allowed the home team to improve to 4-2 in the War Eagle Conference.
The Wolverines shot an even 50 percent for the game with 21 field goals in 42 tries. Akron-Westfield went 19-for-52 for 37 percent, missing all 14 of their three point shots. The Westerners sank six of 11 free throws. South O’Brien was 11-of-18 at the line.
The Wolverines boasted five double-figure scorers topped by David Bottjen with 12 points. Boston Riedemann finished with 11 points while Hudson Oolman, Ben Woodall and Willie Conley each scored 10. Sawyer Honkomp and Dain Moermond tallied three points apiece. Oolman and Honkomp each contributed three assists.
Oolman was the leading rebounder with 10 boards. Honkomp grabbed five rebounds with Moermond and Bottjen collecting three apiece. Conley stole the ball three times and Oolman twice. The turnover totals showed Akron-Westfield with 13 and the Wolverines with 15.
