Streaking Wolverine top MMCRU boys
South O’Brien ran its winning streak to five games with a 58-35 win over MMCRU January 6 at Paullina. The Wolverines improved to 3-1 in the War Eagle Conference and 6-2 overall.
The home team had a firm grasp on victory after a strong first half. South O’Brien allowed the Royals only five points in the first quarter and six in the second. The Wolverines held the advantage at halftime 30-11.
Leading the way offensively were David Bottjen with 19 points and Boston Riedemann with 15. Ben Woodall scored seven points. Adding six points apiece were Sawyer Honkomp and Willie Conley. Dain Moermond tallied three points and Justice Frerk two.
South O’Brien was 18-of-52 from the floor. Assists led to half of those baskets with Jacob Van Lith notching four and Honkomp two. The Wolverines were 7-of-22 from beyond the arc and 15-of-23 at the free throw line. They committed nine turnovers while the Royals were guilty of 21.
Working the boards for the winners were Van Lith with eight rebounds and Bottjen with seven. Bottjen swiped the ball three times while Riedemann, Conley and Woodall got two steals apiece. Conley and Bottjen each blocked a shot.
MMCRU was held to 27 percent shooting with 12 buckets in 44 tries. The Royals were 2-of-13 from three-point range and 10-of-16 from the charity stripe.
