South O’Brien emerged as the girls Class B winner at the Dutch Relays held April 6 at Northwestern College in Orange City. Scoring in all 19 events, the Wolverines accumulated 130 team points for a comfortable margin over second-place Sibley-Ocheyedan, which scored 106 points.
South O’Brien killed it in the sprint events with a pair of individual wins and three more in the relays. Annika Jenness captured the 100 meters and Willa Sickelka the 200 meters. The duo teamed with Hannah Dau and Karlee Warnke to win both the 4×100 and 4×200 relays. Maddy Jungers replaced Dau for the winning effort in the sprint medley relay.
Second-place finishes were turned in by Grace Fuhrman in the discus, Takara Conley in the 1500 meters and Abby Boardman in the 3000 meters. Another runner-up was the 4×800 group of Taja Conley, Takara Conley, Sophia Faust and Fuhrman. Taja Conley and Faust joined Dau and Abby Schreck to form a second-place combination in the distance medley relay.
Placing third were Taja Conley, Takara Conley, Fuhrman and Faust in the 4×400 relay and Riley Draper, Marissa Ebel, Tatiana Conley and Schreck in the shuttle hurdle relay. That meant the Wolverines finished in the top three in all seven relay events.
