TO: Mayor Ebel-Kruse
City Council Members

The purpose of this letter is to provide written proof of the fact that I am hereby resigning as the City Treasurer, effective immediately. I am unwilling to continue in this position for several reasons, the most prominent of which is my not being allowed to perform in a timely manner the Treasurer’s duties i (sic) to which I was appointed, by this Council and many previous Councils. It appears to me that you have no concern that the account balances shown on the office computer and the bank balances actually match. I am not accusing anyone of intentionally making a mistake when posting, but transposition and other human errors do occur. Further, I am not willing to donate the many extra hours that I have spent in the City Office trying to complete the reports for May and June while someone scrolls through hundreds of account pages on the computer looking for a number that matches an electronic debit or credit on the bank statement. Actually, in most cases, that is unlikely to be a posting to one account, but, in fact, requires trying to find numbers to add together from several accounts to equal that total.
Another frustration for me is the total lack of communication from your office. When I attended the Council meeting on September 6th, I discussed the suggestion that had been made that I not be allowed to take any documents from the City Office to my home to prepare my monthly report and was told “We will look into it and get back to you.” I have heard nothing at all from anyone and have received no information with which to prepare a report for July, August or September. You are now three months’ (sic) behind in having a certified report (sic)
I can only conclude that this lack of communication is a move on your part to raise my frustration level to the point of resignation. If that is the case – guess what – you won! And you should be ashamed of yourselves for your unprofessionalism.
Included with this letter are the three office keys that I was given many years ago – one to the front and back glass doors, one for the Clerk’s office doors, and one for the drop box in the back of the building by the alley.
