Paullina Council Hears Animal Protection Concerns
By Mari Radtke
Members of public came to express concerns for condition of streets. Alex Unsplv asked about if the city has a street sweeper and if anyone knows how to run it. He said it wasn’t done last fall, and also asked who would pay when storm sewers plugged. Bill Brant said he doesn’t think a sweeper is enough to clean the streets. Charles Tilley explained that he had used a shovel and it didn’t get it (the dirt). Other concerns about the condition of the streets were brought forward.
Sandy Fritz responded to each complaint. The city is short one person and that person is the one who operated the street sweeper. All other concerns will be forwarded to street superintendent, Chris Erdmann who was not in attendance.
Steps at clinic are in critical condition. City owns the building. Fritz reported back to the council. She also witnessed a rust stain developing under floor covering. Council will need to find source and fix.
Applicants for vacancies are few. City has a wastewater treatment operator position open, and a police officer position.
Todd and Lynn Egdorf notified a city of a dog attack. Dog owners, Anna Zarro and Alex Unsplv, have requested a hearing about the matter. It was set for Thursday at 9:00am at City Council Chambers. Dog owners brought a neighbor in support and described the dog’s behavior as aggressive, but doesn’t believe the dog has bitten anyone. Dog owner was reminded of the leash ordinance.
The new rezoning map to reflect the zoning ordinance change was shown and discussed. The empty lot owned by Jon and Candy Hahn is proposed to be changed from general industrial to residential. The first reading passed. The ordinance change will get a second reading at the April 19 meeting. Council may schedule a third reading befor final passage or waive the third reading at that time.
