Back and forth game goes to Sioux Central
Sioux Central and South O’Brien met up for the opener of the South O’Brien Tournament on Saturday June 11. The Rebels put up four quick runs in the top of the first inning, but the Wolverines came right back with five runs in the bottom of the first to take the 5-4 lead.
Sioux Central scored two more in the second to go up 6-5, but South O’Brien evened the score up at 6-6 with a run of their own in the bottom of the second. Sioux Central then went up 8-6 in the top of the third and 10-6 in the top of the fourth. South O’Brien scored one run in the bottom of the fourth to make it 10-7 in favor of the Rebels. Neither team scored in the fifth inning and the game ended with the time limit.
Annika Jenness had a pair of singles, an RBI and a run to lead the Wolverines. Also collecting a base hit each were Abby Schreck, Jinger Nieuwenhuis, Grace Fuhrman and Sam Wilbur. Fuhrman took the loss, giving up nine hits and 10 runs (five earned), walking four and striking out six. The defense committed four errors which proved to be costly.
The Rebels went on to lose to Ridge View 6-0 in the championship game. Ridge View had beaten HMS 9-5 earlier in the day.
