Close battle ends in Sheldon’s favor
On June 2nd Sheldon was at Swanson Sports Complex for a nonconference match up. The Orabs got on the board quickly with a run in the first. South O’Brien scored a run in the second to tie the score at 1-1 when Jinger Nieuwenhuis reached base on an error and was later hit in on a single from Grace Fuhrman. Sheldon went up 2-1 in the third and then scored a pair of runs in the top of the fifth to take the 4-1 lead.
The Wolverines scored one run in the bottom of the fifth when Fuhrman singled, Marissa Ebel came in to courtesy run and then scored on a base hit later in the inning by Kenna Bauer to make the score 4-2 in the Orabs’ favor. Neither team scored in the sixth and seventh innings.
It really was a pitchers’ battle out there tonight. Both teams did have quite a few hard line drives, but they were always right at someone. The scoring was hard to come by for either team.
South O’Brien struggled to get hits and ended with just three total for the night. Fuhrman, Bauer and Maddie Johnson all collected singles. Fuhrman pitched the entire game and did a great job of keeping her team in it! She allowed seven hits, struck out three and walked two. Three of the four runs were earned.
