Lydia Flinders, a Junior at South O’Brien, participated in the Sub-District Ag Radio Broadcasting competition that was held at Sheldon. Flinders had thirty minutes to prepare a five-minute radio broadcast using radio broadcast copy materials she received at the contest. She then presented as if she were a farm director or reporter for the KFFA radio station. The event is intended to foster an understanding and create an interest in the field of broadcast journalism. Lydia took 4th place and earned a Gold rating. Lydia’s favorite part about the competition was how she had the freedom to choose the material she wanted to use in the presentation and how it seemed like she was an actual radio broadcaster.
