Sutherland Passes Budget Amendment
The May 2 regular Sutherland city council meeting opened with the public hearing for a budget amendment that passed without comment.
During the regular meeting council Sharon Flinders, Economic Development reported the approval of 2 storefront grants; “Creations of Color” a new business with a scheduled ribbon cutting for May 18 and the coffee shop that recently changed hands. Spruce up Sutherland grants awarded thirteen projects; 10 painting, 1 siding and 2 removals. Council member Patrick Nelson explained property tax incentives for residential development the committee would like to propose. The proposal was for tax abatement on improvements for a limited period of time. A recommendation for Thor Klinker, City Attorney will be evaluated in the coming month. The Community Fund made 6 awards of $500 each. The library for Landscaping, Willoway for fitness center equipment, Little League for concession stand and storage unit updates, Noah’s Ark received funding for new equipment at the new facility and Town and Country Saddle Club was awarded $500 for updates and repairs. The Park Board is providing raised beds planters placed at the library with funds from the Community Fund.
Dennis Fogelman gave the library report. He spoke about the history program and about the elevator. The elevator passed inspection but board members have concerns for coming years.
The pasture land bid received 1 bid for $150 per acre per year for 3 years from Anne Hellman. Council unanimously accepted the bid.
