South O’Brien Girls Track At Alta
The Wolverines traveled to Alta last Thursday for an early season outdoor meet. After missing the whole season last year, the team was looking forward to the opportunity to compete. Normally, the girl’s would have had an indoor meet at Dordt with the conference schools but it was cancelled due to the ongoing pandemic.
The Wolverines started the running events with a 1st place finish in the Sprint Medley. The time of 1:58.60 was achieved by Annika Jenness, Maddy Jungers, Karlee Warnkee, and Willa Sickelka. Later on Annika Jenness placed 1st in the 100m dash with a time of 13.53.
The 4×200 relay consisting of Annika Jenness, Karlee Warnkee, Kenna Bauer, and Willa Sickelka also placed 1st place in a time of 1:54.04. Willa Sickelka added a 1st place in the 200m dash in a time of 27.83. The final 1st place of the evening came on the 4×100 with a team of Annika Jenness, Maddy Jungers, Karlee Warnkee, and Willa Sickelka in a time of 54.28.
The girls competed very well . There were a number of 2nd places that were events we haven’t been great at in the past. The 4×800 team of Takara Conley, Sophia Faust, Grace Fuhrman, and Taja Conley with a time of 11:12.98 was one of our fastest times in recent years and placed 2nd.
Taja Conley and Abby Schreck placed 2nd and 3rd in the 400 hurdles. This is a very tough race and their times of 1:18.27 and 1:18.60 were great competitive runs. Abby and Taja along with Jadyn Renken and Kenna Bauer had a 2nd place finish in the Shuttle hurdle relay.
Final point standings for the meet showed the Wolverines scoring 134 points for 3rd place. Just behind Manson NW Webster’s 139 and Lawton Bronson’s 152. All the results from the Alta-Aurelia meet can be found on Varsity Bound. The Wolverines next meet will be a meet at home Monday, March 29. We will be hosting Cherokee, Ridgeview, HMS, Okoboji, and Whiting.
