Runner-up finishes in four events helped South O’Brien’s track and field girls place fourth as a team at the War Eagle Conference Meet held May 3 at Hinton. The Wolverines totaled 74 points. The host Blackhawks earned the conference team championship after scoring 136 points. Unity Christian was second with 132 and Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn third with 83.
Karlee Warnke placed second in both the long jump and 200 meter dash. Taja Conley finished second in the 400 meter hurdles and anchored the distance medley relay to a runner-up placing. Teaming up with her on that relay were Kenna Bauer, Warnke and Takara Conley.
Joining shot putter Maddie Johnson in finishing third were the 4×100, 4×800 and sprint medley relays. Making up the 4×100 were Abby Schreck, Warnke, Bauer and Annika Jenness. The 4×800 consisted of Takara Conley, Grace Fuhrman, Mariella Smith and Elodie Wilson. Running in the sprint medley were Maddy Friedrichsen, Schreck, Jenness and Taja Conley.
Fuhrman earned fourth place in the discus. Also placing fourth were Taja Conley, Regan Draper, Takara Conley and Bauer in the 4×400 relay and Schreck, Riley Draper, Marissa Ebel and Bauer in the shuttle hurdle relay.
Fifth place went to Takara Conley in the 1500 meters. Finishing sixth were Schreck in the 100 hurdles and Clara Larson in both the shot put and the discus. Another sixth place finish was turned in by the 4×200 relay of Friedrichsen, Jenness, Alyssa VanBeek and Abigail Nelson.
