Tough course takes its toll on Wolverine girls in loss to Gehlen Catholic
The South O’Brien Girls Golf Team met Gehlen Catholic at Le Mars on Monday, April 25. Although the weather was cold and windy, the sun peeked through a bit to make the round tolerable. Gehlen won the match 201-268 on Willow Creek’s challenging black course.
Gehlen’s Olivia Bunkers, Jayden Barthole, and Virginia Freking took the top 3 medals with 46, 47, and 51 respectively. South O’Brien’s Samatha Wilbur tied with Gehlen’s Ry Sitzman for 4th with a 57, but Sitzman took the medal with a 2-hole handicap card playoff. Other Wolverine scores were Whitney Einck with a 66, Jinger Nieuwenhuis with a 71, and Addison Brueggeman and Chloe Gergen both with a 74.
Each of the girls has great shots and great holes every night, but we just struggle to be consistent. The creeks, ponds, and sand created some real struggles tonight. However, we have three girls who are very new to the game. I am proud of all of them for their resilience as they face the challenging weather and tough competition.
