Dinner Theatre March 27th & 28th – South O’Brien High School will present “Is There A Doctor In The House”, as the feature attraction of their 1992 Dinner Theatre. This twoact comedy is a Tim Kelly adaption. The Dinner Theatre will be held at the 9th grade building in Sutherland. Serving time will be from 6-7:15 p.m. Curtain time will be at 7:45 p.m. The menu includes your choice of ham or Swiss steak, baked potato, vegetable, and salad bar. Dinner and show tickets will be available in the main offices of the 3 school districts beginning Thursday, March 19th. Prices are $6.00 for adults and $4.00 for K-6 students. Bleacher tickets for the show only, will be available at the door at a cost of $2.50 for adults and $1.50 for students.
Engelke to open repair business – After 44 years of business, Sutherland Motor Company, owned by Verlin Gellhaus, has been sold to “Butch” Brian Engelke of Sutherland. He will take possession of the building on April 1st, 1992. The new business will be known as Engelke Repair and will offer general mechanical repairs & service as well as continued Snapper lawnmower repair & sales, as formerly established by Gellhaus. Engelke is an experienced mechanic, having worked at the Sutherland Farmers Coop Service Station for the past 14 years.
Johannsens honored for half-century as Masons – Del and Ray Johannsen were honored Sunday, March 15, for being members of Abiff Lodge No. 347 A.F. & A.M. for 50 years. Galen Rozenboom of Sanborn was die guest speaker. Galen, referring to when Del & Ray joined the Masonic Lodge said, “Fifty years ago war was declared. Hitler had forced all Masonic Lodges in German occupied countries to be closed. He would not have a nation of free thinkers. Those Germans then became secret societies, they went underground. Isn’t it great that we no longer are a secret over there? Masonic lodges are coming out into the open.

Robin Fiddelke Receives Honors at Des Moines The Office Education class of Iowa Lakes Community College had 10 students receiving honors at the Office Education Association State Leadership Conference in Des Moines on Feb. 25 and 26. These students will be going on, to the National Leadership Conference in Nashville. Tenn. April 24-27. They will be competing in their various events with students from 16 other states. Robin Fiddelke of Sutherland received honorable mention in business proofreading.
Beth Steuermann To Celebrate 90th Birthday Beth Steuermann will b e celebrating her 90th birthday Sunday, March 21 at an open house from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Church Hall. She requests “n o gifts, please. ” All friends and relatives are invited to come.
Calumet to Form Community Betterment – The citizens of Calumet are in the process of forming a Community Betterment program. Barbara Wickham, the assistant director for Iowa, will be visiting Calumet on Tuesday, March 23 at 7:30 in the Legion Hall. She is from Des Moines and will be letting us know what has to be done.

“4 Clowns” Will Show At Sutherland Theatre In “4 Clowns” 20th Century Fox I brings back the belly laugh with I four of history’s funniest men, Laurel and Hardy, the bow and the fiddle; Charlie Chase, playboy of the Roaring Twenties; and the immortal, acrobatic Buster Keaton, the Great Stone Face. “4 Clowns” will show Saturday afternoon and Sunday evening at the Sutherland Theatre, as the Time Machine takes us back to the 20’s to view the legendary “Great White Way”, and we watch the years roll kaleidoscopically past to a most unusually funny motion picture.
Saturday Matinee At Sutherland Theatre – “Upon inquiry” as to the show time for the Sutherland Theatre, we decided to remind patrons that the Saturday matinee begins at 2:00 p.m.; there is no show on Saturday nights; and on Sunday night, unless otherwise advertised, show time is at 7:30 p.m. Show time is shown on the Sutherland Theatre ad each week.
