GRADE SCHOOL BB TOURNAMENT SATURDAY – The South O’Brien Athletic Department is sponsoring a grade school basketball tournament Saturday, March 8. Forty teams are coming from Northwest Iowa and workers are needed for concessions, tickets and officiating. If you are willing to work, even a shift or two, call Kevin Brasser, evenings at 448-2477, or the school at 448-3452 or 448-3454 Proceeds go to the junior and senior high school athletic departments for various athletic needs. Thanks for your support!
Daffodil Days – As the first flower of spring, the daffodil symbolizes life and hope. Supporting the American Cancer Society’s Daffodil Days, means giving hope to cancer patients and giving yourself a touch of spring. Coordinating the sales promotion of the freshly-cut daffodils in the Paullina area are: Margaret Lange, 3893; Jewel Nielsen, 3906 and Helen Pauling, 3420. Orders may be placed with one of these ladies before March 9. The cost is $5.00 for a bouquet of 10 flowers, with delivery on or about March 23.
Oration contest winners – Competition in the Paullina-Primghar Middle School Civic Oration Contest was held February 19 in the Little Theatre under the sponsorship of Modern Woodmen of America. Judging contestants’ talks on the topic, “An American Invention,” were: Wendy Plendl, Luvella Burnett, Betty Taylor and Margaret Dau. Josalynn Anliker and Erica Lenz each received trophies and gold award pins. These commemorative pins were also given to the next five finalists: Zach Rasmussen, Kate Roecker, Beau Hurtig, Amber Oolman and Ryan Schuknecht. The names of Anliker and Lenz will be engraved on the Paullina-Primghar Middle School permanent trophy, which provides space for 5 year’s winners. Marlene Klink and Kay Geerdes conducted the contest.

Paullina Panthers Return To State Tournament – Will Play Waukee In First Round At 4 p.m. Tuesday The 1981 Class 1A State Champions – the Paullina Panthers – will be returning to the state basketball tournament to defend their title This is the third consecutive year that the Paullina Panthers have been on e o f the teams in the state meet They were defeated in first round play in the 1980 meet and went all the way last year and were state champions The Paullina team will be entering the tournament with a 22 win 1 loss record as will their opponent Waukee. Game time is 4 p m in Veterans Auditorium at Des Moines.
Celebration Dance to be held Saturday – To celebrate the Paullina Panthers triumphant return to the 1981 State Class I A basketball tournament, a Celebration Dance will be held at the junior high gym on Saturday night. March 13 The dance will begin at 8:30 and music will be on records with John Grosvenor and David Fwoldt as the disc jockeys Admission will be $1.00 per person and there will be two couples chaperoning the dance.

Zion Students To Give Operetta Mar. 28 – The students of Zion Lutheran school will present “Make Believe Magic”, an operetta depicting children-who wish they lived in pioneer days so they wouldn’t have to work so hard. The public is invited to attend the evening of March 28th at 8:00 p.m.
Scouts to Pick Up Goodwill Bags On Saturday, March 18 – The final phase of the annual Prairie Gold Council Boy Scout Good Turn Day for the Handicapped” will take place this Saturday, March 18, when the Boy Scouts, with Scout Master Cal Stewart in charge, will gather the “Good Turn Day” bags from the homes in Paullina where the Cub Scouts left them last Saturday.
