Wolverine boys roll past Akron-Westfield 63-25
South O’Brien hit the ground running January 21 as the team visited Akron-Westfield at Akron. The Wolverines led by 22 points after one quarter and by 39 at halftime on the way to a 63-25 War Eagle Conference victory. South O’Brien raised its conference mark to 4-2.
The Wolverines got scoring contributions from nine different players. Sawyer Honkomp tallied 13 points, Jake Wallin 11, Boston Riedemann nine, Hudson Oolman eight, Derek Paulsen seven, Jacob Van Lith six, David Bottjen five and Pete Bottjen and Ben Woodall two each. Wallin totaled seven assists.
The visitors shot 51 percent for the game with 25 baskets in 49 attempts. That included going 4-for-8 from behind the three-point line. South O’Brien sank nine of 13 free throws. The Westerners made nine field goals (two from beyond the arc) and five free throws.
Key contributors on the boards were Van Lith with eight rebounds, Wallin with seven, Oolman with five and David Bottjen with four. Honkomp came away with two steals and Wallin blocked a pair of shots.
