Fast start propels Akron-Westfield past Wolverine girls
Akron-Westfield jumped out to a 23-point lead after one quarter and never looked back in collecting a 61-19 War Eagle Conference win over South O’Brien January 21 at Akron. With the loss the Wolverines fell to 2-4 in conference play.
The Westerners shot 52 percent (26-of-50) from the floor while South O’Brien was held to 20 percent shooting (7-of-35). The Wolverines made just one of 15 three-point tries while Akron-Westfield was 5-of-16 from beyond the arc. From the free throw line the visitors were 4-of-7 and the Westerners 4-of-6.
Kenna Bauer scored eight points for the Wolverines, Abby Schreck four, Riley Draper three and Taja Conley and Tatiana Conley two each. Schreck and Taja Conley each had an assist. Akron-Westfield was led by Natalie Nielsen’s 22 points and seven rebounds.
Draper grabbed six rebounds and Alyssa Van Beek pulled down five. Taja Conley swiped the ball twice, contributing to the Westerners’ eight turnovers. South O’Brien turned the ball over 17 times.
