Wolverine boys roll past Westwood
South O’Brien limited Westwood to only one productive offensive quarter in handing the Wildcats a 56-26 loss December 11 at Paullina. The visitors from the Western Valley Conference tallied 17 points in the second quarter and a total of only nine in the other three. With the win, the Wolverines improved to 4-1 on the season.
The victors got 16 points from Ben Woodall, 12 from Jacob Van Lith, 11 from Jake Wallin, seven from both Sawyer Honkomp and David Bottjen and three from Hudson Oolman. South O’Brien made 23 baskets in 58 attempts (40 percent) and 17 of those hoops followed an assist. Leading assist men were Oolman and Wallin with four apiece and Woodall with three.
The Wolverines were 5-of-19 from long range with Woodall accounting for all but one of the treys. The host team made good on five of its 13 free throw attempts. The Rebels were just 10-of-40 from the field for 25 percent. They connected on four of their 15 three-point tries and were 2-of-5 at the line.
A number of Wolverines had a hand in the team accumulating 36 rebounds. Van Lith and Wallin each grabbed eight caroms with Honkamp collecting seven and Oolman and Bottjen five each. Wallin rejected three shots and Oolman stole the ball twice. Westwood was guilty of 18 turnovers. South O’Brien valued the rock, turning the ball over just two times.
