Wolverine boys suffer conference loss to Remsen St. Mary’s
Remsen St. Mary’s outscored South O’Brien by 12 points in the fourth quarter to banish any thoughts of a Wolverine comeback and secure a 57-34 victory December 7 at Paullina. The Hawks had won each of the first three quarters but their lead was still a tenuous 11 points going into the decisive final eight minutes. This was the War Eagle Conference opener for both teams.
St. Mary’s hit twice as many baskets as did the Wolverines. The visitors were 22-of-47 from the field for 47 percent. South O’Brien was at 42 percent with 11 field goals in 26 tries. St. Mary’s put up 19 three-point attempts, making just five. The Wolverines were 3-of-7 beyond the arc and 9-of-18 at the charity stripe. The Hawks sank 8 of 14 free throws.
Ben Woodall canned a pair of treys and was South O’Brien’s leading scorer with eight points. Hudson Oolman finished with seven points and Sawyer Honkomp and Jake Wallin each scored six. Jacob Van Lith added four points, Pete Bottjen two and David Bottjen one. Wallin had three assists and Oolman two. Wallin gathered in 13 rebounds and Van Lith blocked two shots. The Wolverines turned the ball over 12 times, compared to just two turnovers for St. Mary’s
