Special Election December 7
By Mari Radtke
O’Brien County Supervisor District 1 has no representative on the Board of Supervisors. It hasn’t since mid-October when it was vacated by Sherri Bootsma formerly of rural Sanborn due to relocation. Due to most of her term remaining, the O’Brien County Auditor, Treasurer and Recorder, per Iowa law, met and determined best interest for the citizens of O’Brien County was not to appoint but to allow the voters to choose a replacement.
Officials for both county political parties were notified and allowed elect a candidate from the county conference. Any qualified person could work to have themselves petitioned onto the ballot. Only Republican Timothy Overmire is on the ballot to fill the Supervisor District 1 vacancy. A write-in campaign is a last option.
The special election is scheduled for Tuesday December 7. Voters should check the O’Brien County website for their specific polling location. All polls are open that day from 7:00am until 8:00pm. All registered voters are eligible to vote in this election. Bring identification. Same day registration is available.
