Non Conference Win for South O’Brien

The trip to George was well worth it for the South O’Brien boys’ basketball team. The trip pitted the Wolverines against the George-Little Rock Mustangs. G-LR came out first, but it soon turned for the Mustangs on their home court. The Wolverines opened up a lead in the opening period, 11-5 never looking back. The Mustangs just barely scored double digits in each of the remaining quarter. Second quarter scoring was 16-10, sending the teams to the break with the Wolverines up 27-15.
Third quarter scoring was 18-10 and final period scoring was 12-10. Game final was Wolverines 57, Mustangs, 35.
Senior Jaden Kreber topped the scoring for both teams with 23 points. Freshman Mustang Bryson Ver Steeg led his team with 9 points. Wolverines seniors Gabe Moermond and Alex Griebel served as supporting cast scoring 17 and 6 respectively. G-LR sophomore Patrick DenHartog put in 7 and junior Wyatt Minter scored 5.
South O’Brien’s Brennan Billick, Broday Van Beek and Moermond, all seniors dominated the boards. Billick grabbed 5 boards including 1 offensive grab. Van Beek pulled donw 5 and credited for a steal. Moermond took 4 boards and also marked a blocked shot and 3 steals. The Wolverines booked 15 steals for the night and 21 fouls.
Minter took 4 rebounds and a steal with junior Cash Sandbulte getting 3 rebounds and a steal. Junior Silas Dixon got 1 board.
