The 2025 winners of the annual burnout contest during Sutherland’s Labor Day weekend were selected by a panel of judges. This year included 14 entries, all passenger cars. Contestants came from as far away as Des Moines as well as many of the area communities.
The Labor Day Burn Out began more than 25 years ago. We are still looking into that. Al Mills once ran the event on W. 2nd Street. When he retired, it moved to W. 1st Street and Zub’s Shop accepted management of the event in about 2015.
The 2025 top 3 are: 3rd – Terry Baxter, Spencer driving a 1985 Chevy Camaro; 2nd – Brady De Hartog, Sheldon (pictured with Evelyn), driving a 1986 G20 van; and 1st place went to Kyle Huckabee, Larrabee, driving a 1979 Olds Cutlass Supreme.
