No Decision on City Ballpark Lights
By Mari Radtke
The Paullina City Council is grappling with the high cost of replacing the lights over the “Little League” ball field. A quote from MUSCO that includes all parts and labor with the exception of bringing electricity to the site is $178,298.00. The council is considering how to replace the lights to provide for public safety. At least 2 poles are described as cracked. The quote was provided on May 25, 2021 and is valid for 60 days. The council is expected to make a decision at the June 21 meeting.
Council also heard alternate methods to communicate mowing nuisance violations instead of a mailing and 15 days system currently in use. The idea is to place a flag on the property in violation of grass height rules and giving them 7 days to mow. The 15 days is considered such a long time the grass becomes really hard to mow. In line with yard care the city is considering amending the ordinance about the height of trees above the streets and sidewalks. They are discussing requiring trees over sidewalks to be 8 feet above and 15 feet above streets.
Rubber mulch for the city park is purchased and will be delivered. The fire department has agreed to remove the wood chips under the playground toys and help put down the softer material when it arrives.
