Archer Council Removes Library Camera

By Mari Radtke
Mayor Nathan Mueller reported to the Council in his regular report that some of the tanker payment from Carol Township has been paid leaving a balance of just over $10,000. The city is still working with the township to resolve the matter. Mueller also reported that his community garden plot was planted. He reminded the council that proceeds from the sale of produce harvested from that plot will go toward city needs, most prominent is the need for a library building/community center/city hall.
Charlene (Annee) Carlson is the new Archer Librarian and she gave the council a comprehensive report. She explained that a lot of materials were being checked out and the summer reading program was underway. She counted the average daily use at 8-10 patrons. She outlined library programs for youth and for adults.
A brief discussion about the camera installed in the library was had. It was reported that no one can access it; no one knows the password. Council is having Super HiTech remove the camera.
Council is also concerned about speed on the highway going through town The speed limit is 25 mph going through town, but few vehicles slow down to that speed. A discussion with the sheriff’s office was had, but reducing speed north and south remains a concern.
Councilman Stephen Meyer asked about work on the ordinance book with Northwest Iowa Planning and Development Commission, which was contracted in January. An update is expected at the July meeting.
