Wolverines clash as West Bend-Mallard tops South O’Brien

South O’Brien wrapped up the regular season by hosting the West Bend-Mallard Wolverines July 1 at Paullina. The visitors had 10 hits but also took advantage of free bases to defeat South O’Brien 10-1. With the loss SO’ dipped to 5-16 on the season.
The host Wolverines had two of their seven hits in the third inning. With one out Damian Villarreal and Gabe Moermond hit back-to-back singles. Villarreal scored on a wild pitch. Eliot Boardman and Will Stout hit consecutive singles in the second inning. Brennan Billick had a base hit in the fourth. Moermond went 3-for-4 on the night as he also singled in the first and seventh innings.
Starting pitcher Ryan Fuller went 2-2/3 innings. He allowed five earned runs on two hits with seven walks and four strikeouts. Stout tossed the next two innings, giving up three earned runs on five hits and two hit batters. Villarreal worked the final 2-1/3 innings which included two unearned runs on three hits with three strikeouts, two hit batters and a walk. The defense was guilty of three errors.
