Sutherland Approves Sale of Property

A public hearing to transfer title of a lot in the Industrial Park was held June 2 and received no comments.
Kiana Johnson provided her annual report to the Sutherland City Council. She noted that Sutherland was the first community to receive Revolving Loan Fund dollars in the 1990’s. Sharon Flinders is the Sutherland representative.
Sweeney’s Clubhouse was granted a new outdoor service liquor license. Outdoor activity was expanded with the construction of 2 pickle ball courts.
Patrick Nelson expressed the ongoing conversation of how Economic Development will manage ownership of the clinic building was held. James and Colleen Johnson announced, in May, granting the facility ownership back to Sutherland Economic Development.
The Community Fund Board met in late May. They determined that their maximum amount in the next round of grants would be up to $15,000 and up to $2000 for not for profit organizations. The last grants were made in 2022. This will require a budget amendment. The NFP grants includes parks, fire, library, etc.
The library report was approved. Plans to hold a puzzle fundraiser on Saturday of Labor Day weekend are underway. Some discussion about the purchase of the puzzles was held along with other library activity during the weekend long celebration.
A resolution to move money from the emergency to the general fund was approved. State law passed in 2024 disallows cities from levying for or holding emergency funds. This move closes all Sutherland emergency funds.
A resolution accepting fiscal year 2025-26 employee wages was passed. All resolutions to sell the property in the Industrial Park to R2 for a second cold storage building were also passed.
