Confident Wolverines beat up on George-Little Rock
South O’Brien rallied from an early 2-0 deficit in a big way. The Wolverines scored all but one of the game’s final 15 runs to overwhelm George-Little Rock 14-3 June 4 at George. It was the first win for South O’Brien after two early losses.
Wolverine head coach Heather Struve saw a more confident bunch in all facets of the game. “Abby Nelson had a big night at the plate going 3-for-5,” noted Struve. “Ashlynn Gunnerson went 2-for-4 and had four big RBI’s on the night. Those two, along with Abby Woodall and BreLee Rasmussen are seeing the ball really well. Alli Griebel pitched a solid six innings, hitting her spots very well. Tawni Wulf relieved her for the last inning and faced just three batters. Our defense played really well behind our pitchers and we are just out there having fun! That’s when great things can happen.”
South O’Brien batters struck out 11 times but also drew 10 walks. Rasmussen scored four runs and Gunnerson three. The baserunners were successful on all eight of their stolen base attempts. Kelsee Warnke and Maeci Stevens each went 2-for-2.
Griebel allowed four hits. Two of the Mustangs’ runs were earned. She struck out six batters, walked one and hit two. Wulf recorded one strikeout. There were two Wolverine errors.
