The South O’Brien Girls Golf Team took first place at the 1A Regional First Round Golf Tournament at Rolling Hills Country Club near Hull on May 16. The Wolverines advanced to the Regional Final at Primghar Golf and Country Club on Wednesday, May 21. South O’Brien put together a winning score of 411. The 2nd place team, Harris-Lake Park, will also advance after posting a 420 total.
“The girls showed some real grit today as they faced challenging winds, cold, and rain,” stated Wolverine head coach Kris Faust. “It was a big change from the 90-degree temps we played in at the conference meet on Tuesday at Le Mars. We have not had a day this brutal all season, and I was proud of the way they stayed focused enough to get the win. Sometimes the weather becomes an excuse to play poorly, and that did not happen with our team today.”
Freshman Cassidy Horstmann continues to find the leaderboard and play consistently on the front and back with 47-47 (94). She landed in 2nd place individually on the day. The top six individual golfers also advance to Wednesday’s Regional Final.
“Junior Lindsey Einck managed the front nine pretty well, but struggled to find her groove the second time around,” said Faust. “Even so, her score was just a couple of strokes away from making the top six. Freshman Alli Griebel took par on two holes on the back, which helped improve her score five strokes from front to back (55-50). Freshman Anna Griebel’s score (53-55) rounded out our cards to help our team score. The team’s other two freshmen, Addi Triplett and Addi Odenbrett, continue to work hard and gain valuable experience this season.”
