Wolverine golf boys defeat Trinity Christian
South O’Brien met Trinity Christian May 5 in a boys War Eagle Conference dual played at Rolling Hills Country Club near Hull. The Wolverines came away with the victory 202-219. Trinity does not have a girls golf team, so the South O’Brien girls played a practice round at Hull to gain some experience playing a different course.
“Although the weather was beautiful and the Wolverines won the match, we did not play our best golf tonight,” remarked Wolverine coach Kris Faust. “Junior Alex Griebel was the one bright spot. He continues to prove himself with consistent, focused play.” Griebel led the field of 10 golfers, earning medalist honors with a 46. Trinity has only four golfers. Three SO’ guys tied at 52 and battled for 3rd-5th place. After a handicap hole card playoff, senior Jace Kleinwolterink took 3rd, senior Ryan Fuller took 4th, and sophomore Nathan Harms landed just outside the medals in 5th.
“A couple of the guys were disappointed in their performances tonight,” said Faust. “We had some double-digit hole scores, which is not good at this point in the season. It’s what they do next that matters most, however. Hopefully, they can leave this one behind and focus better the rest of the week.”
