The MMCRU boys dominated their own Royal Coed Relays, scoring 201 points in the event held May 2 at Marcus. Someone had to finish second, however, and that was South O’Brien. The Wolverines compiled 138 points.
Despite the runner-up finish, South O’Brien did leave its imprint on the 2025 edition of the meet. The Wolverines’ shuttle hurdle relay team set a new meet record with a time of 1:01.33. Establishing the new mark were team members Brennan Billick, Derek Paulsen, Brett Evans and Brody Van Beek. The previous record time was 1:02.76 achieved by Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn in 2009.
Three sprint relays joined the shuttle hurdle in the winners’ circle. They were the 4×100 and the sprint medley (both with Damian Villarreal, Caden Wittrock, Van Beek and Paulsen) and the 4×200 of Evans, Wittrock, Van Beek and Paulsen. Also finishing first was Billick in the 110 meter hurdles.
South O’Brien had a pair of second-place finishers in the distance races. The runners up were Trayton Cobb in the 1600 and Landon Davenport in the 3200.
