Tigers squeeze past South O’Brien girls in OT

Trinity Christian hit a tie-breaking three-pointer with a minute left in overtime and went on to beat South O’Brien 45-42 January 28 at Hull. A free throw gave the Tigers a 44-40 lead before the Wolverines’ Reese Farquhar made a basket with three seconds remaining to cut the deficit to two. One more made free throw and a missed halfcourt heave and Trinity had its War Eagle Conference victory.
South O’Brien led 5-3 after one quarter, 14-12 at halftime and 25-22 after three. The Wolverines went in front by five early in the fourth quarter but back-to-back treys put Trinity ahead. A Farquhar free throw tied things up and South O’Brien was at the line again with a just over a second left in regulation but both free throws were missed.
Trinity was 17-of-57 (30 percent) from the field and the Wolverines 12-of-58 (21 percent). South O’Brien sank 14 of 23 free throw attempts. The Tigers were 7-of-17 from the line. Each team made four three-point baskets.
Farquhar was the game’s high scorer with 20 points. Abby Nelson added eight points, Chloe Hustedt seven and BreLee Rasmussen one. Abby Woodall and Cassidy Horstmann each hit a trey to finish with three points. Woodall and Addison Hedberg each notched a pair of assists.

The top rebounders were Lindsey Einck with 10 boards, Farquhar with nine, Nelson with seven and Woodall with five. Nelson and Hustedt each came away with three steals and Farquhar and Hustedt each blocked a shot. The turnover totals showed the Wolverines with 19 and Trinity with 18.
