Archer Council Approves Vendor Fair Extravaganza
by Mari Radtke
The Archer City Council met in regular session on Tuesday June 11. During public comments Nicole Lehner requested the council to consider allowing her to organize a vendor fair on Main Street in July. Lehner, a Pampered Chef vendor, shared her willingness to organize the event and gave an overview of what would be needed from council. That was primarily a formal closure of Main Street at the councilís next meeting.
Councilman Stephen Meyer informed council that a person had asked about the purchase of a lot at the Harriman and Main Street corner. There has not been a formal request. Meyer outlined the project but had no details.
Council heard the good news that an OíBrien County Community Foundation Grant application had been approved for funding. The application was submitted by Carol and Dudley McDowell to purchase a multi picture frame stand for display and easy access to viewing the Archer Consolidated School District senior class photos.
City Clerk Sandy Fritz reported that a budget amendment is not needed for Archer.
A review of garbage billing showed council the accounts with outstanding balances and a request for further collection effort for certain accounts. Those would be assessed to taxes or, in some cases, written off. The discussion also went into the collection service the city pays exceeds the revenue it receives from current residents. Archer just entered into a new 3-year agreement. The landfill increase is what is causing the lost revenue for the city at this time. Price adjustments and a first reading of an ordinance change will be held in July. Council approved the garbage rate to change from $45 per quarter to $53 per quarter.
There were no committee reports.
