Wolverines avoid the knockout but lose 15-6 decision to Gehlen


The Gehlen Catholic Jays went a long way toward winning their War Eagle Conference baseball matchup with South O’Brien by accumulating 10 runs in their first time at bat. Gehlen led 12-0 at one point but the Wolverines got up off the mat and took the Jays the full seven innings before eventually falling 15-6.
The Wolverines finally got on the board in the fourth inning, matching Gehlen’s two runs in the top of the inning. They kept the momentum going with three more runs in the fifth. Each team scored once in the sixth and the Jays added two more in the seventh.
Brady Riedemann hit a double and a single, driving in three runs. Brett Evans doubled home a run and scored twice. Willie Conley also had two hits. Both Ben Woodall and and Ryan Fuller drew two walks and scored two runs. Mitchell Enger had one hit.
Will Stout got the pitching start and yielded 10 earned runs on seven hits with three walks and two hit batters. Jaden Kreber tossed 3-1/3 innings, allowing two earned runs on three hits to go with two strikeouts, one walk and one hit batter. Mitchell Enger went three innings on the mound with three earned runs on two hits. He walked three batters, hit one and notched a strikeout. There were four South O’Brien errors.
