South O’Brien unable to keep up with Royals
South O’Brien scored five times in the first two innings but MMCRU topped that with nine runs before the third frame. The Wolverines stalled out at five while their hosts tacked on seven more runs to win 16-5 May 24 at Marcus. The loss dropped South O’Brien to 0-2 in the War Eagle Conference and 1-4 overall.
The visitors posted five runs in the top of the first. The Royals scored eight times in the bottom of the inning. The Wolverines got two more runs in the second to pull within three before MMCRU tallied once more. The Royals then picked up two runs in the third and five in the fourth.
Ryan Fuller notched two singles. Mitchell Enger, Brett Evans and Jaden Kreber each had one hit. Ben Woodall was on base three times thanks to a pair of walks and a hit by pitch. He scored twice, as did Damian Villarreal who drew a walk and twice reached base on an error. Gabe Moermond, who walked and was hit by a pitch, scored one run. Picking up one RBI apiece were Trevor Fiddelke, Brady Riedemann, Moermond and Evans. Woodall and Villarreal each stole a base.
Moermond took the pitching loss, allowing 11 runs (eight earned) on six hits and six walks with two hit batters and four strikeouts. Kreber pitched the fourth inning in relief, yielding five runs on three hits. He walked two batters. There were a pair of South O’Brien errors.
