South O’Brien at Hartley Volleyball
by Mari Radtke
Playing at Hartley and facing the Hawks at home brought these comments about the match from Head Coach Amy Schmidt, This was a hard fought win for us. We were ahead in set one and got beat. I felt the girls responded well in set two and three. We worked together as a team. We had girls step up and do well in roles that they haven’t been put in. It’s so important that players understand that in order to win, we need to focus on the team, not ‘me’. When one person struggles, another is able to step up and help. We did just that tonight. I believe Abby Woodall gave us a positive lift in the serving category. She’s a tough kid and stepped up. She also stepped up to help Greta in setting during a few rotations and that allowed Greta to regroup. Working together for the betterment of the team is essential. Chloe, Greta, and Cassidy did well on the defensive side of things. They moved well in the back row and found themselves in the correct defensive positions where we were able to stay alive in play. Avery stepped up in set 5 and had a great defensive back row. She hustled after balls that we haven’t in the past. Reese did an outstanding job of reading the court and helping both offensively and defensively. I thought Tori, Raegan, Chloe, Reese, Taylor, and Greta did well blocking for us!”
South O’Brien swept the hard-fought three set match, 25-20, 25-21 and 25-19.
