South O’Brien FFA Kicks Off Livestock Judging Season

South O’Brien FFA’s livestock judging season is officially underway, with the team traveling to the Monona County Fair for their first contest of the summer. Members judged classes of breeding and market beef, swine, and sheep, gaining valuable experience in the show ring.
The group from South O’Brien featured a mix of veteran team members and first-time judgers, with the teams earning impressive finishes—placing 3rd (Kate Dau, Austin Negus, Drew Wittrock), 4th (Gabe Moermond, Will Stout, Noah Wittrock), and 5th (Ryleigh Fuller, Jaelyn Wallin, Brennan Negus) overall. Individually, Austin placed 3rd, Drew 5th, Gabe 8th, and Will 9th.
In the adult division, South O’Brien FFA Advisor Eric Kumm and Sioux Center FFA Advisor Eric Koehlmoos resumed their friendly annual rivalry. This year, Mr. Kumm came out on top with a 1st place finish, while Mr. Koehlmoos followed close behind in 3rd. The two are set to square off again later this summer at the Woodbury County Fair.
