Wolverines sweep doubleheader from HMS

South O’Brien completed a doubleheader sweep of Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn in action that wrapped up June 30 at Paullina. The Wolverines held an early 3-0 lead over HMS in their War Eagle Conference game June 2 at Hartley. That game was suspended due to lightning and resumes prior to the teams’ regularly scheduled contest. South O’Brien won the suspended game 13-1 and then took the nightcap by the score of 16-0. The WEC win allowed the Wolverines to finish 3-7 in the conference.

The Wolverines totaled 12 hits in taking the first game. Damian Villarreal and Brady Riedemann were each 3-for-5 with two runs scored. Villarreal also knocked in four runs. Austin Negus had two hits, including an RBI single in the third. Brennan Billick tripled and reached base all for times, scoring three runs. Brody Van Beek doubled home a run in the second inning and walked and scored in the seventh.
Alex Griebel pitched six innings of relief and allowed the one earned run on three hits. He struck out seven batters and walked five. Ryan Fuller tossed the first inning which included one hit, one strikeout and one walk. There were three Wolverine errors.

Thirteen South O’Brien batters drew walks in the nightcap and 11 of those came around to score. Riedemann notched an RBI double and single and scored three runs. Will Stout had three RBI’s and Gabe Moermond scored three runs.
Riedemann pitched two plus innings, yielding three hits and three walks while striking out a batter and hitting a batter. Negus finished up the third inning, allowing one hit. Moermond got the fourth inning and gave up a hit, walked a batter and struck out a batter to end the game. There Wolverines committed no errors.
