Royals shrug off early deficit to blast South O’Brien
South O’Brien got off to a promising start against MMCRU with a run in the first inning. That was to be the offensive highlight for the visitors however as the Royals scored the next 11 runs for the 11-1 win in six innings June 25 at Remsen.
Damian Villarreal opened the game with a single and advanced to second on Gabe Moermond’s base hit. An error got Villarreal to third and he scored on a double steal.
In the second inning Eliot Boardman was hit by a pitch and Will Stout and Brennan Billick followed with singles. A pair of strikeouts ended the threat. Brady Riedemann had a base hit in the third and Billick notched his second single of the game in the fourth. Both runners were stranded at first.
Ryan Fuller pitched 4-1/3 innings and took the loss. He yielded nine runs (four earned) on six hits with three walks, two strikeouts and two hit batters. Corbin Warnke came on in relief to get the final two outs of the fifth inning, where he allowed one hit. In the sixth a walk and a hit batter put the first two runners on. A single drove in one run. With one out, an error allowed the run that ended the game. Warnke recorded one strikeout. The Wolverines were guilty of six errors.
